GOOD FOR GOVERNANCE: Duncan Lake Speech Therapy

This year, People First Economy is excited to honor Duncan Lake Speech Therapy with the 2024 Good For Governance Award! The Governance category evaluates a company’s overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency through policies and practices that foster integration of social and environmental goals in employees’ performance evaluation, impact reporting and transparency, stakeholder engagement, and more.

Based in Grand Rapids, MI, Duncan Lake Speech Therapy’s mission is to empower and affirm its clients and their families to achieve their personal communication goals through client-centered speech-language services. Duncan Lake Speech Therapy’s goal is to live into its values and provide individualized speech-language therapy. At Duncan Lake Speech Therapy, they believes that ‘integrity’ is more than a buzzword – it’s an action.

Tamiko Teshima is the a Speech-Language Pathologist and Owner of Duncan Lake Speech Therapy. Tamiko shares,

“By prioritizing strong governance, we hold ourselves accountable not only to high ethical standards, but also to the communities we serve. Governance isn’t just about rules and policies – it’s about creating a foundation that supports long-term growth, fosters trust, and enables us to deliver on our mission of inclusive, compassionate care. Striving for excellence in governance allows us to make a positive impact both within our practice and in the larger community.

Winning the Good for Governance award reinforces the values I built this practice on—integrity, inclusion, growth mind-sent, and client and community-centered care. To me, building a people-first economy means not only doing meaningful work for the community, but also ensuring our team has a supportive and positive environment to thrive in.” Tamiko Teshima, M.A., CCC-SLP (She/Her)
