Fall Habits that Put People First

Looks like Fall weather is here to stay. The change of season marks a fresh start and renewed commitment to regular rhythms. It’s the fourth quarter; the final stretch to meet goals set earlier in the year and prepare for the year to come. Staff members return from summer travels and settle in to end the year with a bang. No wonder it’s such a busy time!

As such, it’s a crucial time to see goals through and hold firm to habits that put people first. What small shifts have you been able to make? Singular actions are merely the first step in developing behaviors and practices with impact. And don't worry – it's not too late to make your first one.

Set a bearing

Setting a bearing by observing and measuring your practices will help your business commit to socially and environmentally sustainable practices, even if and especially when it gets tough.

Good For Michigan helps businesses that want to prioritize social and environmental justice. Caring for both our natural and human resources is crucial to running a business that creates social prosperity, environmental reciprocity, and a more equitable world for future generations.

We do this through the use of two globally recognized tools – the SDG Baseline and B Impact Assessment. After you complete the SDG Baseline or B Impact Assessment, you will join hundreds of Michigan businesses in a growing movement towards a more resilient and regenerative economyEach business starts by measuring its current impacts – no matter what they are.

Start Q4 by taking a closer look at your governance and workforce practices. Make your fall an impactful one!

Businesses that are good for governance build structures that encourage sustainable growth while maintaining and showcasing intentional values. This may include evaluating the company’s mission, ethics, accountability, and transparency. Likely, you’ve already implemented some practices worthy of celebrating. Maybe you offer flexible summer hours. But are they written down as a concrete policy? Learn who can help with governance habits.

Alongside the pandemic was a renewed appreciation for employees. Contributions to employee well-being, such as compensation and benefits, training, health and safety, and job flexibility can make a huge difference in staff loyalty and satisfaction. What is your business already doing to care for your people? In what ways can you deepen your human resource practices? Learn who can help with workforce-strengthening habits
