The Importance of Healthy Communication in the Workplace

Leandra Nisbet, Owner, Stingray Advisory Group LLC

The recent Mind Your Business workshop provided insights on how to improve both focus and productivity within your workplace by using Conversational Intelligence®. If this is a new concept to you, you’re probably not alone. Don’t let the topic frighten you! Facilitated by Evan Bernache, owner of EB Coaching International, attendees received actionable takeaway tips to help them both individually and while building their teams. We recently connected with Evan to gain a deeper understanding of this topic and details about what the workshop had in store. If you were not able to join, here is some information to help you get up to speed.

Bernache works with businesses to help them “bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be through individual and group coaching.” As a former national level athlete, engineer, and now a certified coach, he brings a unique perspective to his new passion. “I am particularly drawn to support businesses and organizations whose primary goal is to have a positive impact in the world. Good for Michigan is one of them, and I love and honor the way they are encouraging businesses to have a positive impact on the people, the community, and the planet. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with them [for this workshop],” he says.

Also known as C-IQ, Conversational Intelligence is what allows us to interact and engage with others and form quality relationships. As you may envision, all of these elements have a direct impact on business.

“When teams don’t communicate in a healthy way, they act from a place of fear and distrust, and this directly impacts their performance, limits their creativity and their ability to take risks to move forward, and, in the end, their business’ results,” he shares. The impact can reach even further.

“Human interactions are part of every business’ life and missing the mark in a conversation might mean missing the mark in your business. If a business person is not aware of the impact of [their] communication, which happens very often, [they] might lose the trust or interest of a prospective client or a potential partner in an instant.” This doesn’t have to be the case, though. According to Bernache, one step small businesses can take today is to “develop a culture of transparency and create a safe space for people to speak up and take risks.”

“If we can learn to take an honest look at ourselves, acknowledge our humanity, learn about the way we operate in the world and our interactions with others, then we can all contribute to building better, sustainable cultures and work environments, where both a great performance and a great experience are possible,” he concludes.

Did you attend this workshop? If so, we’d love to hear what new steps you’re taking to improve engagement and quality interactions within your organization!
