Resolve to do something good for your business in 2019

The end of each year brings time for reflection and planning for the new year ahead. As many of us are thinking about setting personal New Year’s resolutions – like eating healthier, getting more exercise or saving money – it’s also a time to set similar resolutions for your business.

To help you prepare for 2019, we will share a series of blog posts in the coming weeks focused on setting goals that will help you use your business as a force for good. So if you’ve been thinking about launching a company-wide recycling program or rolling out a volunteer program for employees, this series will help you set a plan for accomplishing these goals in the New Year.

Below is a breakdown of the topics we’ll cover.

Part One: Reflecting on your business
The first step in setting New Year’s resolutions is reflecting on what went well for your business in 2018 as well as areas you’d like to grow or improve on in 2019. This section will show you how to use the Quick Impact Assessment to reflect on your business and how it can be used as a goal-setting tool. The QIA can help you reflect on your strengths, identify areas for growth and think holistically about your business for 2019.

Part Two: Setting realistic, measurable and meaningful goals for 2019
Part of being Good for Michigan is measuring more than just profit. Using QIA results, you will be able to uncover New Year’s resolutions for your business, such as saving money, cutting down on energy costs, making new hires or learning new skills. After you’ve identified areas where you’d like to do more good in your business, we’ll show you how businesses are setting meaningful and tangible goals for the New Year to help the environment, their employees and their community.  You will be able to measure your progress on your goals by retaking the QIA throughout the year.

Part Three: Surrounding your business with a support network
We know that a key part of creating successful New Year’s resolutions is having a supportive network of mentors and friends who hold us accountable. In the final part of our series, we’ll provide you with some ideas for building a support network and offer resources that can help you reach your goals.

We hope you will join us in our New Year’s resolution series so you can make a positive impact with your business in 2019. Whether you’re a new business or you’ve been in business for decades, we encourage you to do something good for your business in the new year.
