SUMMARY:Growing the B Corp Movement: The Impacts of Business as a Force for Good
DESCRIPTION:This event will feature an educational luncheon led by Jorge Fontanez\, the CEO of B Lab US & Canada. Fontanez will share his perspectives about the collective impacts of B Corps and why values-driven businesses are good for our communities\, followed by a Q&A portion with Alice Jasper\, the Program Director of People First Economy. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and get to know fellow Southeast Michigan B Locals in the area! \nAgenda: \n\n11:00AM – Doors open\n11:20AM – 12:00PM: Network / grab lunch and find a seat!\n12:00PM – 1:00PM: Jorge Fontanez & Alice Jasper\n1:00PM – 1:30PM: Network / Dismissed\n\nHost Highlight: Renowned “movie palace” architect C. Howard Crane designed Detroit’s historic Garden Theater\, after he opened his own firm in Detroit in 1908. In addition to the Garden Theater\, Crane has 250 theaters to his credit\, 62 of which were built in Detroit\, like The Majestic\, The Fox\, Orchestra Hall\, the Detroit Opera House\, and The Fillmore Detroit. One of the city’s earliest neighborhood theaters\, the Garden Theater opened to the public in 1912. With its 900-seat capacity\, it was one of the largest theaters built outside downtown; it originally hosted live stage shows and motion pictures. As the name implies\, Crane cleverly incorporated vines\, birds and other garden-style decorations in its design to immerse patrons in an outdoor-like experience. After decades in ruin\, the theater underwent a multi-million-dollar restoration and was rededicated in 2013\, a century after its initial debut\, as part of Midtown’s vibrant resurgence. \nSafety expectations: To meet safely\, event attendees are expected to adhere to current CDC recommendations. Masks are optional and we have developed a sticker system to identify attendees’ comfort levels. Changes to this protocol will be made when/if necessary. The new COVID vaccine is available at your local pharmacy. We ask any attendant that is experiencing symptoms to stay home. As a heads up\, beginning September 25\, every U.S. household can again place an order to receive four more free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered directly to their home. Before You Throw Out “Expired” Tests: Check FDA’s website to see if your COVID-19 tests’ expiration dates have been extended. \nParking & Location: Garden Theater / 3929 Woodward Avenue Detroit\, Michigan 48201 \nNametags: In order to be sustainable\, we are asking all attendees to bring their own nametag! \nFor questions or accessibility needs\, please reach out to halla@peoplefirsteconomy.org \nWe hope to see you there! SUMMARY:Global Running Day 2024: Hills & Stairs
DESCRIPTION:Kick off your summer training on Global Running Day at Wednesday Night Hills & Stairs. We meet every Wednesday at City Built Brewing to run Hills & Stairs in downtown Grand Rapids.\nOn this special day\, we’ll be meeting at the park across the street from City Built and have local vendors on hand to do shoe demos\, physical therapy\, and some other special treats.\n\nTwo group run times: 5:30pm & 6:30pm\nYou’re welcome to run with one or both groups. The route goes down and back up 3 of the major hills in downtown GR. The group waits for everyone to complete a hill before moving on to the next hill. This way the group stays together but you can run anywhere 3-5 miles\, depending on how far down each hill you go (or if you just stay at the top).\n\nStick around after the run for a chance to win some fun raffle prizes and to enjoy a cold beverage (and a bite to eat) with your new friends. Raffle will take place around 8pm\, once both groups have gotten back from the run/walk.\n\nNot quite up for running? Whether you are recovering from an injury or just not quite up to running 3 miles yet\, we typically have a small group of people who walk as well at each of the group run times.\nAssociated Business: City Built Brewing Company
